Proposed Legislation

Legislative activity impacting pain management generally falls into one of three categories.
State statutes designed to protect physicians (primarily) from controlled substances prohibitions or disincentives. Such state intractable pain statutes are based on the model Pain Relief Act.
Legislative attempts to reduce criminal law prohibitions affecting patients regarding the use of medical marijuana
Federal bills with more complex agendas. For example, while both the Pain Relief Promotion Act 1999 and the Conquering Pain Act 1999 sought to raise the visibility of palliative care and improve pain management, the former bill was also a federal attack on Oregon's Death With Dignity Legislation.
