To promote intensive study and dialogue about pressing issues in health care, the American Society of Law, Medicine & Ethics participates in research projects. Currently, the Society is spearheading two research projects that focus on Pain Management and Relief. These are the The Donaghue Connecticut State-Wide Pain Initiative [HTML] which is generously funded by the Donaghue Medical Research Foundation and the Project on Legal Constraints on Access to Effective Pain Relief which is generously supported by The Mayday Fund. This project is currently sponsoring this web site in addition to original research from nationally recognized scholars. The web has done more than its share in educating the world about the realities of pain and the necessity for increased quality palliative care. The web is home to thousands of sites that touch on the subject. Throughout this site we list the more important legal commentaries on pain and the law. The most influential contemporary collections of commentaries on pain and the law are those written by Mayday Scholars and published by the American Society of Law, Medicine & Ethics in special issues of the Journal of Law, Medicine & Ethics in 1996, 1998 and 2001. |
